Laugh So Hard Your Guts Hurt

October 2006

Boring day? These hilarious memories will put a smile on your face and take you back to your days as an undergrad. Relive your wild days and share your memories with us at here.

What is the memory that makes you laugh hardest today?

“Taking the pet raccoon to football games.” - Victor Ronald Smith, ’61

“Guy Jackson, racing from the house to attend a meeting on campus, late, to discover that his brother, George, had left their shared car on campus earlier in the day.” - Donald Arthur Pizer, ’66

“Bill Elwood playing the Lord's Prayer over booming speakers from Acacia's top floor down onto one of the high holy day celebrations next door at Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation. Bill decided to interrupt their service when he couldn't find a parking spot in our lot because the church members next door had taken all empty Acacia spaces. As I recall, the good rabbi paid us a rather stern visit shortly thereafter.” - Robert E. Rissberger, ‘66

“Kelly Richers with antlers taped to his head and a Viking costume at one of the house parties. Wish I had a picture to send to the kids in his school - Kel was recognized as an outstanding principal recently.” - Gary E Vogan, ’74

“Cleaning up after the parties and watching someone mop while asleep. Watching the snowflakes waft into the rack room!” - Stephen B. Draper,’76

“When Tim Hearn poured his tobacco juice out the window while we were playing poker. Craig Riedinger was leaning out the window below and caught it all over the back of his new shirt.” - Duane Abe March, ’84

Describe the best party

“When the participation was highest, as opposed to those when the brothers spent the night making out downstairs.” - Victor Ronald Smith, ’61

“Spelunking in Centre Valley.” - Donald Arthur Pizer, ’66

“One of the fun ones was actually across the street when the James Bond movie "Goldfinger" was released. They erected a giant gold (middle) finger, and it was quite a party. Some of the girls there spilled over into one of our parties. Actually, "stealing" midshipmen's, West Pointer's, and Air Academy Cadet hats when they came after football games to our "dry parties" was a hoot. Most got them back. A few may still be hidden somewhere!” - Robert E. Rissberger, ‘66

“That costume party - June (Burr) Vogan then a little sister, now mom to my four kids and I went in metallic gold shirts and jumpers with star trek logos.” - Gary E Vogan, ’74

“A Halloween party complete with a pumpkin-carving contest.” - Stephen B. Draper,’76

“One of the best was the Pledge Jam my class gave in Winter 1981. Our "Acacia Roulette" game was a big hit.” - Duane Abe March, ’84

“A 4 way combine done in the back lawn in April that lasted the whole day with bands and it started snowing in the middle of it.” - Ivan Santos, ’90

Describe your favorite/best road trip

“When President Kennedy was assassinated, we started a road trip to Washington, DC, but never made it. Can't remember why, but it probably had to do with low gas funds, class schedules, or something rather routine.” - Robert E. Rissberger, ‘66

“To West Virginia as they were starting their chapter - even though the PSU stickers on the car resulted in our headlights being kicked in.” - Gary E Vogan, ’74

“Setting up a Bowl trip to New Orleans in an RV. The trip went, I did not, I was running a very high temperature and banned from travel.” - Stephen B. Draper,’76

What is the one memory you have shared or will share with your children or grandchildren?

“At the time I failed to recognize the quality of the brotherhood and how successful they would become.” - Victor Ronald Smith, ’61

“Graduation in Beaver Stadium.” - Donald Arthur Pizer, ’66

“We talk about four years of never missing a football game because we had the best teams in the country, and just plain didn't lose very often. We also brag about how successful our fraternity brothers were in so many endeavors.” - Robert E. Rissberger, ‘66

“Meeting June (town girl) while living at the house; married 30 years on July 17th. We had the wedding reception at the chapter house.” - Gary E Vogan, ’74

“The high GPA of Acacia and the pride of being a member of the "Milk and Cookies" house.” - Stephen B. Draper,’76

“Penn State's first National Championship - especially the game against Nebraska that State won with 4 seconds left.” - Duane Abe March, ’84
