House Renovation Committee Selects Architect, Will Meet with Active Chapter
The House Renovation Committee recently hired Hoffman Architecture to conduct the preliminary planning phase of the renovation project. Bob Hoffman, the firm's principal, will begin the process by holding a series of meetings in April with the Active Chapter and alumni from the committee.
The meetings will help Square & Compass determine how best to utilize the space in the house, which areas are most in need of renovations or upgrades, and how to ensure that the house is properly maintained by the actives once any potential renovations are complete. The use of the public areas of the house will be discussed, with an eye towards reconfiguring the downstairs level and possibly adding more living quarters there. Project chairs Herb Andrews and Dick Shiffer will participate by teleconference, and Chick King, Scott Graham, Mike Long, and other interested local alumni will attend in person.

Chick King and Acacia Appear in Penn Stater Ad
Acacia alumnus Chick King '60 recently appeared in an ad for The Village of Penn State in The Penn Stater. Chick was apparently able to take the opportunity to do a little promoting of his own, as the focus on Acacia in his picture in the ad would suggest. He was photographed with the Chapter House in the background, holding his Acacia paddle, and profiled in the text as an Acacia Fraternity brother. The ad was published on page 51 of the March/April 2012 issue of The Penn Stater.
Chick has been hosting an annual Acacia New Year's Eve party for the past 52 years, and that is one of the reasons he came to the attention of The Village at Penn State's marketing team. "Since I talk about my fraternity brothers continuously," says Chick, "I and the Acacia Fraternity House were selected for the ad."

Annual Fund Needs Your Help Now!
As Square & Compass enters the second half our fiscal year, we need your help now more than ever. Donations to our Annual Fund are lagging behind last year’s total, and the coming months will present new challenges—and new opportunities.
The Annual Fund supports many of Acacia’s alumni initiatives, including the upkeep and maintenance of the Chapter House. During the past year, we’ve made several improvements to the House, including new shower bays and a number of code and cosmetic repairs. The cash flow provided by the Annual Fund has also helped us hire an architect to evaluate a possible major renovation of the Chapter House in 2013. You'll hear more about this project in the fall.
